This CD is not only a compendium of tunes Bobby has enchanted audiences with for over 50 years, but a chronicle of his work, a testament to his artistry, and a lasting record of his innovation and musicianship for family, friends, and fans alike.
At Last was recorded in February, 2002, at Carnegie-Mellon University. It employed the latest recording technology installed at the Johnny Costa Memorial Studio, and is the first CD released from this facility. To create a concert ambiance, the trio performed onstage in the Kresge Theatre, using two different Steinway Concert Grand pianos on two separate evenings. Although there are slight differences between the two pianos and miking schemes, the essence of the trio was captured, and all tracks were the first and only takes. Having performed together every week for almost two years, the trio sounds as it is – a tight ensemble that intuitively communicates with each other their thoughts and feelings, without words.
The song selections have been part of Bobby's repertiore for many years now. Bobby's arrangements of these great songs, some well known, others obscure, are truly one of a kind, and provide great vehicles for improvisation.
Please enjoy this offering of Bobby Negri's fine work, and mention it to your friends. And a personal note...
